re-entry permit validity

Hi,
My parents are are green card holders. They went to india in 2022 May after the extension re-entry permit fingerprint for staying little longer . Due to the processing delay it took USCIS a long time to approve it and they finally processed it only in June 2023. The permit is valid till 2025 June. Are they expected to return before 2024 May as its the maximum allowed extended stay period(2 yrs) or due to the permit validity can they stay little until June 2025?

The Re-entry Permit is a valid document for re-entry during it entire period of validity (i.e. until June 2025). There is no "maximum allowed extended stay period". Having a Re-entry Permit does not guarantee that they will not be determined to have abandoned residence.
