That differs from country to country.In Nigeria, you collect it from the police and take it with you to the Embassy on the interview day.In some other countries, they forward those to the Embassy.I think it is like that with medicals.

Ultimately you will have to have a completed criminal/police background check before your interview day, but at the same time the background check only has a validity of six months. This means if you apply for a check too early, it may have expired by the time you are interviewed at the Embassy.
