I dont know whether this is the right place to post
this, but I would appreciate any help
anyone here could give me.

I am here on an H1b which was stamped in india in
1998. since then I have had one extension which I have
not stamped on my passport. Two months back I changed
my name on the passport to include a last name
(earlier I only had a first name both on my passport
and h1).

My question is whether I will have a problem if I were
to go for visa stamping at a consulate in india (my h1
has only a first name while my passport has both first
and last names)

also is it possible to amend the h1-b petition for the
name change?

If you followed the process to change the name (as I thin you have... as you have a new passport), you should be fine..

Make sure you take the advertisement that you had to place in the local newspaper, notarized documents showing that you changed your name and original Old passport along with the New passport..

The process is pretty straightforward at the consulates in India..

Remember : it doesn't hurt to be conservative and carry any / all documents that shows that you and your first only person are one and the same..
