OPT Pay stubs?

I am on OPT since a couple of months. I am with a consultant at the moment but on bench. I heard rumors about generating pay stubs even if you are on your OPT. Could somebody please clarify this issue? Do we need to generate pay stubs when we are in OPT and on bench?
