number of digits in "A" number

I got GC thru CP in India this year. My A# number has only 8 digits. ( The letter A followed by 8 digits). I heard somewhere that A # number is 9 digits long. Can someone shed some light on this?

Yes, the A# is nine digits in length. The first digit is often 0 (zero), so you will often see the full A# (A 0nn nnn nnn) written without the leading zero (A nn nnn nnn).

485's have the leading zero as well

I went the 485 route and my GC has the leading zero (9 digits).
