Multiple H1B transfer

Hello,
I am being laid off on July 10, 2009 and will receive final pay stub on July 14, 2009. My questions are -

1) If I find a company to transfer my visa while I am still in valid status and while the paperwork for transfer is being processed by USCIS, can I apply for visa transfer by another company (If I find a better company)? Or will I need to wait until the visa transfer applied by the first company is completed and approved by USCIS?

2) If I need to wait until transfer by first company is completed, how long is it advisable to wait to join another company so as not to get rejected by USCIS for visa transfer by another company?

I am looking for some urgent advice. Please help!
 
You have an obligation to fulfill an employment contract. You are stating that you intend to enter into a contract/agreement to work for a company with the intent of not doing so. I find this to be inappropriate conduct for a professional.
