Your TN is still valid even after you file I-485.
However, until your I-485 ias approved, you can't leave and re-enter US without Advanced parole I-131 (and your I-485 is considered abandonned and you cannot re-enter US at all without getting consular approval). You can't use your TN to travel. Once you re-enter on AP, your TN is no longrer valid, so you need EAD to continue working, thus you need to file and get approval of EAD (i-765). And if you change jobs you would need EAD.
So while it is not absolutely necessary to get EAD, it would be foolish to not get AP, and very risky to not get EAD.
Better to file I-485/I-130/I-131/I-765 in one fell swoop.
