Hello!

I have my interview on March 18th, no too far right. And still no documents prepared.

To be completely sure what I need I created this topic, may be helpful for other ones in same situation.

Birth certificate & translation
Police certificate & translation
High school diploma & translation
Medical exam (filled forms by US embassy doctor)

Bank statements (translated?) - big question mark on this one ...

I am student, so I dont have much money and my parents will support me financialy for sure. Can I just bring their bank statements and signed paper with 2-3 senteces declaration that they will support me?

Did I forget anything else?

What country you are from?

Be sure to bring originals of all documents and a copy.

No, thats not enough. You better transfer money into your account.

Ok my parents can send me for example $20 000 , but how will I justify this bank statement where suddenly risen my savings from $2000 to $20000 ?

Is it a problem? It may look suspiciously to the consulor.

Well, the probelm is, your parents cannot sponsor you. In that case you need someone from the US.

See ... I am university student, this is why I dont have a lot of money. But say I have rich parents willing sponsoring me...

What can I do now if I want the consular process to be straightforward and easy?

If you don't have enough money, you need a job offer or a sponsor... whether you're immigrated with the whole family or alone (but the amount that is considered as sufficient depends on the number of persons immigrating).
Here are the poverty guidelines which give you an idea (not more, depends on whole circumstances) about how much is considered necessary: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1327.html
Only a US citizen or a greencard holder can be a sponsor because otherwise their support of you cannot be enforced.
Tell your parents to put some money in your account so that you're definitely over $10'000. The embassy might accept that, but it can also happen that they will tell you that you don't get the visa unless you can show a job offer or an affidavit of support.

My interview is scheduled in Prague, the Czech Republic (EU)

I speak English well. I am university student (studying IT technologies - may it help? for instance easily finding well-paid jobs...)

I checked my current savings ... I have 2000$ on my general back account and 6500$ on my saving account. Thats cca 8500$ at this time.

I told my father to put another 15 000$ on my general account.
So I will be able to show 23500$ savings. Am I ok if the consular officer wouldn't see that put 15k dollars on my account just 3 weeks before the interview?

I hope it won't be so suspicious.

I am also very afrait od affidavit of support, because I really don't have any good friend in the U.S. who can file it for me.

And also I dont have good contacts with USA yet to bring a job offer ...

As you can see in the link that I posted before, about $10'000 are usually considered as sufficient for one person. Since your $8500 are fairly close to that and since you're an IT student, you will probably be fine (yes, it matters whether you are someone who is likely to find a job soon). Whether the officer will accept the money that your father puts in your account or not, no one can say. I would advise you to do that anyway (it doesn't have to be that much).

Hey Hannah,

you should totally be fine! You're educated, you know English, you're single, and you will have quite a bit of money on your account---at least more than the average person. And btw, a sponsor is not required anymore unless a consular officer determines that you have a high chance of becoming a public charge (The embassy in Croatia told me that, so I haven't made this up). And personally I don't think they will throw you into that group.

Good luck!

Interview March 6, 2008 @ 8:00 :)

No one said that everyone needs a sponsor... but if she would only have $2000 and the rest suddenly appears on her account because her parents give her some, then most likely they would request her to get a sponsor. But I agree, Hannah will probably be fine.

Thanks a lot!

Being more sure , my idea is to contact some prospective employers via email and ask them whether they would kindly send me "job offering letter"

I mean I would show consular officer an email offering me job but at the same time it won't tie neither me nor an employer. Is that common and possible at all?

I hope I will be fine anyway (bank statement) ... just pray

Nobody will send you a job offer letter for fun, if he wont hire you.

This is exactly what I wanna find out :) I will try to ask somebody for fun.

Or I can make an inquiry to some employers in U.S. , say I am IT specialist willing to work for them, send them CV ... who knows what they will reply ...
But this is completely another topic.

Back to main questions on the top. The $775 fee.
Do I have to bring this money to the embassy in cash??

Its written in you 2nd letter what they accept. In any case you can pay cash but I'm no sure if all embassies accept credit cards.

My 2nd letter said almost nothing (new), except for the interview time. The rest was what we all know, bring original documents and copies, blah blah...
