Legal to stay after I-485 filed?

If I-485 was filed before B-2 visa (or B-2 visa extension) expired, is the stay in the US after visa expiration legal?

Do you mean before the I94 ?? A visa expiration and an I94 expiration are two different things!!

if INS has recieved your I-485 before your I-94 date expired yes you are considered to be in status (pending adjudication).

Thanks sachinphadke. I should have used I-94 expiration instead of visa expiration.

What if USCIS received your AOS application long after your I-94 expired (after entering the country legally)? Is there a "temporary protective status" clause?
