Just have your wife visit US as a tourist I suppose. She can make trips back & forth to Canada till you become citzen. This way you guys will be together, but the problem I see is her job. Can she quit ?

We was planning on her takin a leave of absence for a few months & having some sort of legal status in the US so she could find work here.:)

My friend in Chicago

One of friends in Chicago had a GC & was married to Canadian citizen. She was staying with him in Chicago the entire time. Even gave birth to couple of babies in Chicago. Used to make trips back to Canada quite often. The only difference was she was a home maker & never worked. Now my friend is a US citizen & his wife has a green card.

Whats an H1??

= H-1B status :)

Congratulations on your marriage! You may want to do some initial reading on uscis.gov and travel.state.gov first so you can ask more specific questions. Just as a heads up, H-1B visas are now allocated according to a lottery system in April each year for employment start date in October. The H-1B strategy would have to be carefully planned and would require quite a bit of luck.

Is there an easy way to sponsor my wife for some kind of legal residence without all the fuss & fees & the headaches I read of the forums???

if there were such a way, do you think people would be on immigration forums discussing fuss, fees and headaches?

truckensafely,
You can either apply for canadian gc and move to canada and forget about us citizenship n us green card. Also apply for a re-entry permit in hopes that immigration law will change someday if Hillary Clinton becomes the President (as she had sponsored an ammendement in the failed immigration bill, that would allow the foreign spouses of US green card holders to get immediate green cards - due to the long family separation of over 5 yrs)
or
If your wife has a specialised skill as defined in the TN (easier to get for canadians) or H1-B visa categories , she can try to get it and come to the US.
Or do what I'm doing that is ...You can ask your employer if you can work from home and so that you can work remotely from canada say 10 - 14 days a month (such that you dont go over 180 days outside the US in the past one yr on any given day). Move to the US border state to Canada, close to your wife residence. Tell the immigration officer (Canada/US) at the border that you visit your wife in Canada and u live n work in the US. Also your wife can keep visiting you on weekends too but your wife needs to keep her job and get her paystubs or education receipts, letter/email of leave of absence/vacation approval from her manager and home/apt rental receipts in case us immigration officer asks her at the border to show proof she is going back to canada. You will need to do this till you become a US citizen, there after you can apply for US green card for your wife and your wife can apply for Canadian Green card for you, so that you can live in canada with out issues incase her us green card appln gets delayed. Also dont get your wife any us credit cards, aaa, any mail that says she has a US address, etc in case us immigration officers check her car / wallet.. this happened to my wife once.

Don't petition for your wife's green card now wait till you become a US citizen. If you petition for ur wife's green card as a US green card holder, the US immigration officer may not allow your wife to cross into the US citing immigration intent.

Right now there is a huge backlog of more than 5 yrs for US green card holders who petition for their spouses, so its better to apply after you get US citizenship.

Well, we are not interested in getting her a US green card or me a Canadian green card. We just want to be together. We just want to find a way to do it.

I believe it takes about a year from when you apply for citizenship, which would be after the required years of continuous permanent residency (which is probably 5 for your case).
