Hello All,

I am a Canadian Citizen and have just been accepted into a graduate program in the States starting this fall...
I am also engaged to an American Citizen and we plan on getting married this summer...

is it better to come on a fiance visa and marry or is it better to wait on the marriage and work the student visa as long as I can...

what would be more beneficial?

would i Still stay canadian if I chose to marry right away? i.e keep benefits.

help!
Thanks,

If I were you, I'll avoid the J1 pathway as much as I can, cos once you obtain the J1 you're more than likely to be subject to the 2 year HRR, since you have other options - you may be better off getting your spouse to file to file an immigrant petition for you as soon as you get married cos this puts you on on the priority list (as spouse of US citizen), if you can't wait then obtain a K visa and apply for adjustment of status after marriage. Bit pls if you can, avoid the J visa route.
