I130 approved, I485 interview date set, but NVC wants fee?

I am kind of confused. My I-130 petition for my wife has been approved and our I-485 interview date will be in April. But I got a letter from National Visa Center yesterday asking me to submit (1) a Choice of Agent and Adress from and (2) $70 of Affidavit of Support Fee (they will then send me the affidavit of support I-864 form once the payment is cleared.)

My wife is in the U.S. and we are applying for adjustment of status in Oregon. I thought we just need to pass the interview and get her passport stamped and that will be all. Does anyone know what this $70 affidavit of support fee is about? Is it because that they think we are doing CP rather than AOS?

We did submit a I-864 affidavit of support with our I-485 application. Thanks.

I can only guess the fee is for the biometrics for I-485, which is $325 + $70 for the biometrics. The I-864 Affidavit of Support is free of charge.
Check how much they cashed when you submitted the I-485. You might want to check with USCIS by calling them. Here's a link to all those forms and fees

Good luck

I think the $70 should be for your Biometric if you did not include it with the $325 for your I-485 that you sent.

Call your DO to confirm

cheers

i had received the same thing when my dad filed for me. I was told by my lawyer that I was not to send money to the NVC as that is for when you are getting greencard through the counselate abroad. Instead she told me I was to do adjustment in the US and make payments to my designated service area. At the time when my application was first filed I was outside the US and then I was also found to be inelligible to adjust status so they had sent my documents to counselate abroad. Hope this helps

When one wants to do CP, CIS forwards I-130 approval to NVC and NVC contacts the petitioner with (1) a Choice of Agent and Adress from and (2) $70 of Affidavit of Support Fee.

Eventhough you are proceeding with AOS, for some reason it also got forwarded to NVC for CP. Since your AOS is progressing smoothly and even your interview is scheduled (congratulations!), you may only want to let NVC know about your AOS process and tell them you do not wish to do CP at this time. Just make sure your AOS remains on track. Please refer to the links below for additional info
