I have just received my green card 2 months back and now due to serious family reasons I want to move back to India .I don’t want to give up on green card. I have heard that I can take the leave of absence up to 2 years.

Can anyone tell me what is the exact name of that leave?
Which forms need to be filled?
In addition, most importantly, can I renew it after 2 years should the circumstances based on which I was granted the leave of absence at the first place still persist?

Please help. Any experiences?

desi74,
Its pretty straight forward.
The option is called Re-entry Permit. You file the I-131 form (same form which is used for Advance Parole). Its valid for 2 yrs from the day of approval.

The only catch is that it has to be filled before leaving US..

And Yes you can make a trip before the re-entry permit expires and then apply for another one for 2 yrs...

goodluck...
