HELP: Passport Validity for US travel

Hi,
I am traveling to india this dec and will be returning begining of Jan 2005.

My passport expires 2005 Nov 30. Anyone knows if it'll be OK to travel out of US. I am on F-1 visa

Passport Renewal in US is not an option as I fly Dec 1. (Just one yr before the expiry).

Any pointers wil be of great help. many thanks.

Well, my husband had a very similar problem in 2001. He wanted to travel home to Croatia and went through the whole hassle of getting some travel form. When he came to Croatia they told him he didn't need it, because his home country must accept him even with his expired passport. He wouldn't be able to travel back to US with expired passport, but he would be able to get home. I'm not sure if this is the same for all countries, but it wouldn't hurt if you call your embassy. We spoke to a local consulate and they didn't know anything.
 
I think ash_kapoor's concern is NOT if s/he can enter her home country BUT if s/he can re-enter the U.S. when s/he comes back.

Anyway, I don't see a problem as the validity of passport is long enough.
