Help on status change from OPT-F1-H1B

I'm currently under my OPT and it's going to expire in about a month and half. So a week a ago I applied for a community college in order to keep my F1 status. But right after school processed my application, I got an interview opportunity and they could possibly sponsor me for working visa. I still haven't got my new I-20 yet, am I still under OPT for now? I talked to school the other day and they told me that my previous school is not going to release my record before this semester starts which is in about a month or so. Does that mean my OPT is still valid and my new employer can sponsor me for working visa?

I feel like I'm lucky and not lucky and the same time. Does anyone know something about this kind of situation? Thanks!!
 
You can stay as long as you gets the new I-20 issued during the grace period following the expiration of the OPT period.
