H4 still with old company VISA, H1 transferred

Hi,
I used to work for company A on H1. I got married while working for company A. My wife came to US on H4 visa issued in name of A.

In Jan, I changed my job to join company B.
However attroney for company B ,told us that we can apply for change of status for my wife H4 once I have my H1 approved. My h1 transfer from company A to B is now approved. Till now we have not filed for change of status on H4 for company B.

Here my question now is if I move onto F1 status
from H1 of company B, can my wife file for change of status to F2 from H4 of company A?

or does she have to file for change of status to H4 of company B and then file for chnage of status to F2.

name of company on visa stamp is immaterial. she is fine if her I-94 never expired. Both of you need to apply for change of status to F1/F2 together. (In fact when you apply for COS, the form will have option to add dependents)
If your H1 transfer involved extension also, the lawyer should have applied for extension for her too.
