H4-H1 SSN Problem

Hi

I changed my status from H4 to H1 on Feb 17, 2004(approval date). On March 17, 2004 I went to SSN office and tried to apply for SSN number, they said that their systems still show me as an H4.

Does anybody know how much time it takes to get updated in the USCIS systems. Did anyone had the same problem .What should be done regarding it .

Any information shared will be appreciated.

many have the same problem, check with SSN office after 10-12 days

Can one legally work during the time social security number is not available?
