early passport renewal

Hi, is it possible to renew passport early (like 1.5 years before expiry)? Any documents to submit for this? Thank you!
 
I think your best idea would be to email or call the Nation Passport Office - unlike the USCIS, you can actually get through to a real person relatively easily, and get a correct answer.
I am curious, what reason would you have for wanting to renew so early?
 
Perhaps he wants a new electronic passport just for fun. I am not sure about the US passport, but in some other countries you should be able to renew up to 1 year before expiry. Definitely most countries should allow you to renew if the passport is within 6 months of expiring, as many countries give you trouble if the passport has less than six months of life left.
 
It's annoying that they don't just issue the new passport with a validity beginning when your current one expires.
