I was on an M-1 which expired on September the 15th, 2006 (which was the date of my graduation). Before I graduated, I applied for an OPT, which I received without a problem (it expires on March 15th).

Since my graduation, I have been working for a company which has been interested in sponsoring my H-1B. I have understood that I would have to leave the country for 6 months, and come back in October.

Problem is, my I-94 from when I last entered the country last year states an "Until" date, which is October 15th, 2006 - one month after my graduation.

What I would like to know is the following:
1. Does getting an OPT automatically extend my right to stay in the US till it's expiration?
2. Does the date on the I-94 affect the application of the H-1B and my possibility to come back in October?
3. Am I currently overstaying in the US, and as any result, breaking any sort of law?

Thank you very much. I am very confused about the whole situation.
