My take is when the child gets the Green Card he will become automatically a citizen. No need to apply for his naturalization. People under 18 years of age cannot apply for naturalization, they either derive automatic citizenship from parents or have to wait until turning 18 to apply for naturalization. For the child to become an automatic citizen there are a few things that have to be met, child under 18, in physical and legal custody of U.S. citizen parent, and being a permanent resident (i.e. having a Green Card)
