can we stamp J Visa inside US ? do we have to go to Canada for that ?

I was in a similar situation and I was told that I had to go to Canada... I hope that someone who could adjust in the US will show up on this thread, otherwise you may have to plan a weekend in Canada...

You cannot receive an actual visa stamp in the U.S. You shouldn't have a problem going to Canada though. Just call ahead and schedule your appointment once you have your DS-2019.
You can also change status using the I-539 with USCIS once you receive the DS-2019 from an authorized J-1 agency. I do not recommend AIPT. There are a lot more agencies that are cheaper and process quicker. You can email me for more info if you want: info@thevisaexpert.com.
