Both spouse and I have TNs, leaving job, can I change to TD without leaving country?

Both my spouse and I (from Canada) have TNs and are working in the USA. I am quitting my job, and would like to change my visa to a TD visa.

Will I need to leave the country with my spouse and come back to apply for the TD visa, or can I fill out a form to change from a TN to a TD inside the US?
 
You can file I-539 to apply for Change of Status to TD, but that costs several hundred dollars.
 
... and if you choose to instead go to the border, you do not bneed your spouse with you. A copy of their I-94 along with your marriage certificate is sufficient.
If you choose mail-in, it should be mailed the day you quit.
