Ashcroft Will Resign

According to a report from Law.com (and also from other news sources), Attorney General Ashcroft "is likely to leave his post before the start of President Bush's second term". Mr. Ashcroft is apparently exhausted from his leadership role after 9/11. Mr. Ashcroft's departure, should it come to pass, will likely have many reverberations for the immigration law community. Two prominent names mentioned as replacements are former NY Mayor Rudy Guiliani and White House General Counsel Alberto Gonzales. Appointing a pro-immigration Republican as Attorney General may be the first step towards sweeping immigration reform next year. Immigration Daily will keep you on top of events.
