I have questions about what I need to send along with the I-485 forms:

Questions
1. Police certifcate from my native country?
2. Medical Report from USCIS list of surgeons?
3. The payment receipt, original or copy?

What are the things I need solely for the inteview?

Thanks

You should try to send copies of all documents with your I-485. Here's the list of the documents I sent with my application, some items may not apply to you. You won't need Police Certificates if you are doing AOS, the FBI takes care of that.

Do I need to pay for the biometrics now before sending in the i-485 form?

No, read what I sent carefully, in the Package I sent the $ for I-485 and Biometrics. So that is how you do it. Also read instructions on how to file I-485 online:

http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-485.htm

and on the first pages of the I-485, they will say the same thing.

REMEMBER that when you send the package to the Chicago Lockbox they will send the package back to you UNLESS the fees sent are correct and complete. That is all that happens at the Lockbox, an initial sorting based solely on fees.

Cheers

Barbara

Thanks. I paid for the DV Filling Fee which is $375.00 and I have a receipt from US department of State, PA. I guessed you paid less last year since you paid $325.00

I will put in a check with the forms of $70 for the Biometrics. I guess this is what you meant. I apologize if my head is not clear to understand simple explanations.

My situation is similar to yours I am in cleveland, OH. Did you send the Biometric fee to US Departmnet of State, PA? Maybe I should post it today so that I get a receipt before next week.

I think you are still confused about the fees, you have to pay 3 fees:

* DV Lottery Fee (sent to Department of State)
* I485 fee ($325)
* Biometrics fee ($70)

In your package, you can send a copy of the dv lottery fee receipt and a money order for the other 2 fees. If you only send $70 they will send it back.

Fees must be paid by cashier's check, certified check, or money order only. PERSONAL CHECKS AND CASH ARE NOT ACCEPTED.

Maraba,

1. You have sent the DV fee of $375 to the Department of State. Good.
Use a COPY of the receipt to include in your AOS package.

2. When the times comes for you to apply for AOS, you must send the AOS fees of $325 plus $70 for Biometrics WITH your AOS package. NOT BEFORE!!

Barbara

Barbara, you mean we don't need Police Certificates from native countries if we are doing AOS? thanks in advance.

That is correct.
AOS: security check (name check/background check) is performend by USCIS/FBI.
No need to provide Police Certificates. I did only because I didn't know that at the time.

Barbara

Barbara, thanks again. u dont know how big a news thats for me. from past 1 month i ve been trying to mobilise my frens and family members back home in my native land just to get these goddamned police certificates from half a dozen locations i lived for more than six months. you saved so much of efforts that wud ve been useless!

Thanks everyone for the clarifications on the fees.

I find it interesting that I don't need police certificate from my native country. I am a little unsure because it was listed in the things required. Well I am still waiting for the one I ordered to be sent to me. Is there anyone who did not experience background checks delays and did not send in any police certs from native country?

I did not submit police certificates, if I remember correctly it was only required for CP and not for AOS. My attorney also confirmed the same thing.

My name check was cleared two days after I did my fingerprints. The same thing happened to my wife.

Good Luck!

What about the issue of birth certificate. What is the alternative to not having the birth certificate? Is this needed at the interview or sent with the i-485?

Secondly my number is current in October should I apply now or wait for Oct 1?

1. Send your birth certificate (copy) or equivalent document (can't help you there) WITH your I-485

2. Send your package on 1 October if ready or any time in October.

AOS package to Chicago only when number is current ?

Hi Everybody !

Do you think its a good idea to send package to Chicago only when VISA number is current? Mine is EU00004XXX.
According to the VISA bulletin it will be current in Nov 2006.

So should I send it in October or wait till Nov ?

Thank you for the reply.

Some USCIS offices are very strict on when the AOS should be filed, and they expect that to happen when numbers are current. Some applications have been rejected and had to be re-filed with fresh checks attached! Others have had no problem at all. It's your risk, it's your choice.

Good luck

Barbara
