Did you receive a call from DOS, before you actually received the stamped passport back on April 22 2002? They say, in their memo that they will be calling applicants about their passprots before they mail them.
I also sent my passport on Oct 21 2001, and am waiting eagerly to hear from them.

Yes. In March, I asked DOS about the status of my passport, then they sent a letter to me, stating my passport was in anthrax list. DOS people called me on Apr 16, 2002 and gave me 2 options. 1) Sending passport without stamping. 2) With stamping. I opted for 2nd option. They did stamping on Apr 17, 2002 and I received on Apr 21, 2002 through Express Mail.
