485 and staring a business

I have read a couple of the previous emails which mentions that you can start a business and work for it if you are on 485 and have an EAD but it also mentions that you have to work for your sponsor. What iif you have been laid off ? after six months from the receipt date of 485? Can you still open your own business? or do u have to find another employer?
