The NYC office accused us of having counterfeit DS-2019 forms and of having faked an employer letter. It was weird. Just like you, they then came around and said forget about it. Approved same day. I think it is a stress interview technique. Stand your ground and stay calm and it seems...

Green Card Lottery During Political Asylum

You do not necessarily need to go back to your country of citizenship to obtain a GC through the lottery. You can obtain it through adjustment of status. Many people go this route. There have been experiences of asylees gaining GC through DV AOS. If you win, then you will have to sort...

they stamped ours but didnt write anything on the stamp like they used to. I dont think they care very much about stamping citizens/GCs.

the interviewer will check your old visas and DS-2019s. if any of them say that you are subject to 212(e) then you will need a waiver. if they do not then you will not need a waiver. it is normal for extension/renewal DS-2019s to leave the 212(e) section blank. the original DS-2019 will...

Haven't received my GC and also didnt get stamp during the interview

I guess by "OPT" you mean you got your EAD card. We also interviewed in NYC and also did not get a stamp (we got "I-485 pending" written in passport). Check case status online and/or schedule an infopass to ask status. They can check with the officer you interviewed with as to the status.

"Have you ever been removed, excluded or deported from the United States?"

You were refused a visa, yes. But that's not what they are asking. They are asking if you were removed, excluded or deported. These all essentially mean that you were forcibly made to leave the country. These are legal terms of art, defined in the INA. "Excluded" does not have the common...

Congrats Johnkent -- this is fantastic news. Glad to hear you had an easy interview. Card shold roll in in about two weeks. Seems like we were the only people to have a crazy interviewer. Oh well. I guess we are suspicious looking people.

Congrats. The card does indeed come in almost exactly two weeks. As respects bringing a paper mountain to the interview -- in our experience it was nice to know that we had every conceivable piece of evidence our crazy interviewer could ever want. Some stuff she was really strict on...

Well, they didn't adjudicate it 'at the interview' -- actually a few hours later -- so I don't think I'm bound to take it all back. :-) The NYC office is OK... they sent the interview letter the day after biometrics so someone there must be paying attention to DV cases. I can grudgingly...

We got the cards today. Hard to believe it's all over. All for this piece of plastic. It's actually a bit strangely disappointing when you get it. santoshlamsal - the odds favor your name check having cleared. I would suggest bringing a copy of the 2007 USCIS memo that says they will...

So long as the I-485 is correct, you are probably ok. The EAD isn't really all that important as the goal is to get the GC as quickly as possible. You can call the 800 number and they can put in to have it corrected on the EAD application. Or you can ask the people at fingerprinting to do it.

The positive to this is that, when you do finally have your interview, you will be approved promptly (if you believe them that your name check is clear). A note to your congressman or senator should cause the interview letter to move along.

oh, one last thing: - AOS is a very bad choice and you are highly likely to regret choosing it. The USCIS is a mess. Think carefully. - Dress well to the interview as the level of respect offered by the officers we saw seemed to correlate 100% to whether the person was in a suit or...

You can order the tax transcripts through a touch tone interface, without talking to anyone. Which is what we did. I posted a very detailed list of stuff that the USCIS asked us for in the 2008 thread. On the list, they did ask for an "IRS printout" (which AFAIK means a transcript) for the...

We (in NYC) used the Department of Health to get vaccinations, blood tests and the inevitable chest X-ray. It's free but it's a huge, huge hassle. If you have health insurance you might be able to get your regular doctor to order these tests and save you some money. We went with the low bid...

In our case USCIS pulled the file the same day they sent out the interview letter.

The furniture in the interviewer's office was carefully positioned so you could not see what was on the desk. KCC had told us a month earlier that they had shipped out the file so I assume they had/have it.

The interview letter came with an exhaustive list of stuff they wanted, which is as follows: Of this we were asked for numbers 1-4, 6-7, 11, 13, and then stuff not on the list like the J-1 specific documents discussed earlier. She was very interested in state tax compliance...

Card Production Ordered In'shallah we are done with this. We had our interview at the USCIS NYC Federal Plaza office today. Showed up half an our before our appointment time. Security was very quick and easy, and sign-in was also quick. Interviewer called us about half an hour late...

As I said above... Neither of these forms is required. The I-134 is nice to have. You can get by without either if you can show income or assets of your own (e.g. job letter, bank statements). I-864 is not the right form and should not be used for this purpose (but you might get away with...
