Working on expired L2 EAD - Renewal applied

Hi,

My wife is on L2. Her EAD expired on 02/15/2005. Since, I had to get my L1 visa extended before she could apply for her EAD renewal, she could only apply for the EAD renewal in Febraury, 2005. She got a receipt letter from INS with a receipt date of 02/14/2005.

Now she got an offer to work from one of the placement offices. When told about this situation, the placement office indicated that they are fine as long as my wife has SSN and has applied for renewal of L2-EAD.

Is it legal to work. What would be the repercussions if she takes up this offer.

Would appreciate any thoughts.

thanks,

You should check with an immigration attorney. As far as I know you cannot work without a valid EAD. It is not enough to be eligible (like e.g. through L2 status).
This might not affect your wife in the short term, but when you file for your greencard or renew a visa, unauthorized employement can be a serious problem.

Thanks Billy_Bob.

I was going to check with attorney

Do you kow if 240 days rule still applies to the other categories?
