My parents got visitor visa for 3 months (although they are 60 and above). Is there a possibility to get 6 months stay at port of entry?

Visa expiration is not related to authorized stay. Usually family visitors specially parents get 6 months stay. 3 months visa simply means that they should enter US within 3 months.

i always thought if u get visa for 3 months, then u MUST leave in 3 months - unless u get new visa stamped.

No, a visa is only to seek entry. You can enter US even on the day of visa expiration, the immigration officer decides how long you can stay and that duration is not related to visa. Visitor's visas are granted routinely for 10 years but that does not mean you can stay for 10 years!
