Validity of Job Offer from Canadian Company

Has anyone applied for Permanent Residency using a Job Offer without HRDC approval? Did anyone get points for that?

I know the points system says that the job offer needs to be HRDC approved and I have heard from people that if it is from a company which has paid taxes and in good standing then they might award 5 points even without HRDC approval.

Wanted to see if anyone has been through this situation.
