Trying to capture vacation time for H1-B extension

Guys,

I have received a query from INS that even if I am out of the country on vacation it still counts in my six years. Does anyone have any experience with this ? Will a letter from my previous employer stating that I was not being paid while I was out of the country be of any use ?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
   I was able to get my H1B extension including the period which I spent on my india trip . Basically when I applied for my last H1b extension I send out all my I94 copies as a proof and a small calculation which gives the exact time frame of my vactaion . And I was able to get additional 87 days for my last H1B extension.
But this happened almost 21/2 years back .
So I don\'t know the current situation??
