Guys

I intent to fly by Al-Italia, I plan to get visa stamped in India. I have a valid I-797 (Notice of Action). Will it be a problem in any of the transit airport such as

Milan, Italy

I would appreciate If any body can share their knowledge / personal experience.

note - I called the Italian consulate & they said its not required if I'm not leaving the air-port.I told them specifically that my US visa had already expired.

Thanks

You have the correct information - for transit through Italy you do not require a transit visa even if you do not have a valid US visa within your passport. This has been the experience with one of my friends who was in a similar situation.

In general, deciding on whether a transit visa is required through a particular country (including Italy) is dependent on one’s nationality too. It’s always a good idea (like you did) to check with the specific country’s embassy (web-sites usually provide the required information).

Here is the appropriate link to check if transit visa through Italy is required:

To apply for Italian Visa here is the link:

Also for information - I think the Netherlands (Amsterdam) and Austria (Vienna) do not require transit visas.

In addition, for the benefit of others in the forum - I am using the info posted earlier in response to a similar question (for transit through UK and Germany), where the requirement is different:

For transit through UK and Germany … you will require a transit visa if you do not have a valid US visa (visa which has not expired) stamped within … passport. Possession of a valid I-797 (Notice of Action) is NOT enough.
