Travel in valid TN after H1 approval

Hi,

My husband, Canadian citizen works in cap-exempt institution in TN VALID until August 13 2019. He just got approved notice of H1-B effective on 12 August 2019. His status will be changed automatically on 12th while he is in US with new i-94.

He has a travel plan to Canada in early June for 3 days.

Can he return to US in TN without any problem to resume his employment?

Is there any recommended documents should he bring when he travel?

He is fine on TN, copy of I-94 should suffice (some say bring your last paystub, or your employee badge, some poo-poo this). These entries before August have absolutely no impact on the automatic transition, which will occur on 8/12/19.
