Thanks to RealCanadian.
I kept calling the vfs people to get an emergency appointment and finally they told me that I could email the consulate directly. I emailed them saying that I am working in the US and needed to go back quickly. I did not give them much details.
Find the consulate niv email and contact them. I got an appointment for 10 days later. Hope this helps.
