Teacher H1B Question Please Help

I am a Canadian teacher and would like to teach in Massachusetts. Since H1B's are granted at the earliest on October 1st of every fiscal year and teachers obviously start work at the beginning of September, how does one go about landing a job and hence having an employer petition for an H1B?

I am already in the Boston area and it seems that no school wants to hire me if I can only start working after October 1. I don't blame them, but does the US government have some sort of exemption for teachers wanting an H1B? This policy seems to make it impossible for any foreign person to land a teaching position.

Also, if I can't get a regular teaching job, then I would have no problem being a substitute teacher. Does a substitute teacher qualify for an H1B?

I'm sure there are thousands of foreign teachers who have gone through this experience. Please help!
