Study/Work in europe after green card

Hi all:

Is it possible to study or work in Europe after getting a green card while maintaining your gren card status by applying for a reentry permit?

Study is a valid reason on re-entry permit, cause you can prove that your trip will be temperory in nature (till you graduate).
Work might be tricky, if you have a short/mid term contract with a finite end date, then it is possible to get a re-entry permit and preserve your green card.
