staying out of US

My H1 is epiring in 2002 can I stay out of the country for one year before my H1 expires and then apply for a new H1. Would this new H1 be valid for another 6 years

Any time you stay out of the country for an year, you are eligible for a fresh H1 term of 6 yrs. I am pretty sure of this, though you need to confirm with a lawyer regarding your case.

I just talked to my Lawyer; She says that any time you stay out of US
for more than 1 year, your H1 will get reset....

You may want to make sure that travel records,and employment records
in the foriegn country reflects that you worked and stayed there...
