Sponsor - only a relative?

Hi!

I have just filed an I-140 as EB-1 EA (self-petitioned). I have a question: when I get ready to file I-485, do I have to have a Sponsor? Seems like all information about Affidavit Of Support suggests it should be a relative, and my case is not family-based. Can a Sponsor be a friend who is willing to take on that responsibility?

Of course, I will also file my tax return with I-485, but my most recent one may not show enough income (it was a tough year...)

Nobody knows anything about this? Oh well, I guess my scenario isn't very common... What if I phrased it like this:

Should I enclose an I-134 (from a friend who's willing to be my Sponsor) with my I-485 package (to follow up an EB-1 EA based I-140), if my own 2005 tax return doesn't look so impressive, or should I only send it in if they ask for it?

I just don't want to give them any excuse to deny me...
