I have a query regarding the special registration:
I'm an Indian Citizen, but was born in Yemen (my father was a career diplomat posted there). I lived there until I was four and have never been back.
When I entered the US approx April 2003 with a business visa, I was asked to go through special registration. I spent a total of about 40 days in the US, following which I returned back to India. It was after I returned that I realized that I had just plain forgotten to check back at the immigration for the 30-40th day requirement.
I'm aware that there has been an update to the 30 day requirement and it is no longer necessary.
Now my company has asked me to go for another 30 day business trip to the US, and I would like to know the repurcussions of my not having registered as per the earlier requirement. Could I be turned back at the port of entry? Can I call the immigration dept and check with them? Does anybody have similar experience?
Any answer to my queries will be greatly appreciated.
