I think it would be better to explain my situation:
I applied for SSN on July 19 at the local SSO office, and the guy I spoke with was actually surprised that my I-94 was already in their system and has been verified by DHS considering I just arrived the night before. (Although he did tell me to mention to anyone to wait about a week or two after arriving in the US to apply for an SSN.) The letter he gave me states that I should receive the card within 2 weeks.
Here is my dilemma -- I am currently subleasing a student housing accommodation in one of the university dorms, and apparently, I do not have access to the mailbox. Apparently, the university mailing services checks the names on the letter with the corresponding names on the accommodation, and as a sublease, my name is not on the mailbox. So, there is a likelihood that the SSN mail will be rejected and sent back to sender. I was not aware of this and the girl I am subleasing to would not change the mailbox to my name temporarily since she is expecting some deliveries when she moves back in next month.
So with that in mind, I can either go back to the SSO office on Monday to ask to resend the card to a different address. Or wait until Friday (which will be two weeks since I applied for SSN) and explain my situation, hoping that by then, they will have my SSN in their system and can provide me with a letter containing my SSN that I can show to my employer.
Which do you guys think is a better approach?
