Renewing passport while asylum is pending

Has anyone tried to renew their passports while their asylum case is pending? Does the country of origin refuse to renew your passport because you have sought asylum?
 
I talked to a lawyer and he said that the asylum is confidential and USCIS will not disclose to your country of origin. So there will be no problem. Please share your experiences on this
 
USCIS doesn't share 'data' with any other country. Equally, your country, no matter what country, doesn't share your information with USCIS. Criminal/Wanted information is shared between countries through Interpol. Only the FBI has an interest in that. USCIS proceedings are civil, not criminal proceedings. Either way, USCIS has no resources to dig for information back in your country.
 
Well, I would avoid renewing your passport if your country will find out you applied for asylum. It might destroy your chances of visiting the country after you become a US citizen, as they might have you in a database of persona non grata, or even allow you in and then persecute you.
