Reg H1 validity period.

I was on H1 from 2005-2009. I got laid off in sep 2009 and i changed my status to H4( Applied COS H1 to H4). I have agian started looking for oppurtunities and have decided to get back to H1. I just wanted to know how many more years of H1 is valid for me. Once i apply for COS from H4-H1 will my H4 be counted towards my 6 yeras H1 or will i have the remaining 2 years validity period. Please advice.
 
Time actually in H4 does not count toward 6 years. Remember once you are on H4, you cannot begin working until approval with i-94 is in your hand.
