question about asylum application! Please help
Dear All:
I have to apply for asylum. But my nonimmigration visa is going to expire in one and half month. I have several questions here:
1. Do I need to extend my nonimmigration visa to maintain my legal status? When my asylum application is pending and my nonimmigration visa expired, will I still be in legal status?
2. When I extend my nonimmigration visa, the application form asks if I starts any immigration visa application or not. I wonder if applying for asylum is kind of like applying for immigration visa?
3. If I apply for nonimmigration visa extension and the asylum at the same time, is there any bad effect? Since my homecountry passport will expire next year, I have to show legal status to extend the passport. But I cannot show them I am applying for asylum.
