Question About 4 Months Visa For Non Profit Organization

We have a non profit organization engaged in research on religion and social work. We will like to bring an individual for 4 months in US on a trial basis working for the non profit organization before we give him h1b. I will like to know what visa can we sponsor this individual for this 4 months period so that he can be legally paid as well and what will be the documents required. Any help will be appreciated.

The J1 visa is probably the best fit for the position. It is used for a wide variety of positions such as trainee, student, professor or research scholar, short-term scholar, non-academic specialist, foreign physician, international visitor, teacher, summer student in travel / work program and so on. It is also easier to get a J1 visa as compared to the H1.
