Procedure for Getting GC when married to US citizen (I am on H1 visa)

hi,

My case might be simple but am really confused as I have no idea how to go about for my scenario.

I am currently on and H1 visa and am getting married to my fiancee in Dec who is a US citizen.

I would like to know what the procedure in this case should be meaning after doing registered marriage here - how soon will i be able to get my greencard.

I work/stay in NJ and m fiancee stays in NY City.

Please help !!!!!!

You have come to the right place. This question has been answered way too many times on this forum. Search this forum and you would get all the information you want. If you were still not able to find any info, here is something for you to get started with.

You (sponsored immigrant): Fill the following forms
I-485 for Adjustment of Status
G325-A biographic information
I-765 - Employment Authorization (optional as you already have valid H1)
I-131- Advance Parole (optional, You can use valid H1 for travel)
I-693 - Medical examination
I-864A - Affidavit for Support, Contract between sponsor and household member (only if you plan to use your income for support)

Citizen Spouse: Fill the following forms
I-130: Petition for Alien Relative
I-864 - Affidavit of support.
G-325A- Biographic information.

Once filled, these forms must be sent to the USCIS lock box in chicago. You will find more information here...
