Priority Date and Marriage in India

My priority date is in December, 2006. There is a slight possibility that it may become current by the second week of August 2010. My Girl friend is in India and I am supposed to marry her in December 2010. What are the possibilities if my priority date becomes current in August 2010 ? Can I get a civil marriage done immediately before I get the green card, so that my girl friend will not have any issues with visa later on. I have heard if the marriage is registered after I get the green card, then it is very difficult to get a visa for the spouse. Do I need to get her name immediately on to the I-485 application ? Is it better to just get engaged and then get her here on a student visa (since she is planning on a phd) and marry in the US ?

If your marriage certificate says that you were married before your GC was approved, you are all set.
However, if you miss, you in for a long haul.

Better take a 1 week off get married and come back right away.
