Photo size to be Scanned?

What should be the photo size to be scanned?

Is it ok to have 2X2 inches and scanned at 300dpi to have 600X600 pixels photo or to have 4X4 inches (is it too big?) and scanned at 150dpi to have required results? Is it matter what should be the size? If not, then can I also have 1X1 inch photo scanned at 600X600 resolution?

Other question is that, is it possible to differentiate between digital and scanned photo?

Waiting for your kind help.

Thank you.

It doesn't matter if you scan a 2x2 at 300 dpi or a 4x4 at 150 dpi. At the end of the day you'll always have a digital image with 600x600 pixel.

Thank you Tazmania. But if I scanned 4X4 image the size will be bigger compare to 2X2 inch scanned image? Right?

resolution 600 = paper size 2 x 300 dpi
also
resolution 600 = paper size 4 x 150 dpi
alse
resolution 600 = paper size 3 x 200 dpi

There are a lot of other sizes which satisfy the same condition. All of the are valid.

But if I scanned 4X4 image the size will be bigger compare to 2X2 inch scanned image? Right?
If you have 4x4 with 150 dpi, the resolution will be exactly 600x600. Exactly the same, not bigger, as 2x2 with 300 dpi
