OPT and H-1 B conflict at the time of lay off

I am on OPT which is valid till Aug 24 2002. I am working for company A since last 7 months and my H1-B is in process. I may get laid off next month. If at that time my H1-B is still in process and I have to join employer B, can I start working immediately on my OPT and then do premium processing for new H1-B.

Please help!
