When applying for US passport, you have to submit the original naturalization certificate or a copy of that?

If you submit original, how can you travel before you receive the US passport

If you have an urgent need to travel, then use the expedite service to get the passport. It usually gets done in 1 week. If you are traveling with 14 days and have a ticket, then you can go to the Regional Passport Office and get the passport on the same day. Also, you can travel to Canada and Mexico without a passport, just carry the naturalization crtificate, but be very careful, though.
 
Can you apply to regional passport agency if you have not purchased a ticket yet?

What do you need to show to apply for passport at the regional passport agency (to get passport same day)

i believe you have to show a confirmed ticket which you would be traveling within next 14 days. i think just a booking / reservation but not ticketed might not work
