Hello all,

My mother (64 years old) is going to be visiting us for 5-6 months here in Florida and I was wondering what's the best option to get a medical insurance for her?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Wrong choice of words on my part. Yeah, she is coming to live with us. She got the GC in 2010 and then she was out of country for a few months but now she is going to be living in US.

Has anyone explored the Medicare buy in? How much does it cost?

Are there any other non expensive avenues for buying health insurance?

Your mom will have to wait 5 years before buying into Medicare. Until then, you and your mom are unfortunately on your own. You can buy short term visitors medical insurance for up to 2 years.

Thanks nkm. Does that five year period start after obtaining GC or is that five years of stay in US after GC?
